My 'Real' Job: Zookeeper
My Passion: Tigers & Tiger Conservation
Selatan is my inspiration...
Selatan was a Sumatran tiger born into the Australasian region’s captive population. Sel was born at Melbourne Zoo, spent some time at Taronga Zoo where she was the pin up girl for many years. She had two litters in Sydney before heading west to Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
I first met Sel on January 4, 2004 and fell in love with her and her species not long after that.
How would I describe Sel? Well ... Selatan, she was cryptic yet personable, she was challenging yet willing, she was demanding yet giving. She was every bit of perfect.
She made me think beyond the captive environment, she made me think of the wild population. When I said good bye to Selatan for the last time in 2012, Selatan Crafted Giftware was born in my head.
Selatan ... she made me smile, she taught me my trade, she kept me motivated, she is my inspiration.
The products you find in my shop are bold, vibrant & fun ... just like Sel was. Unfortunately for the wild population, life isn't fun ... far from it. Wild tigers are perilously close to extinction ... they need our help.
Selatan Crafted Giftware commits to providing a financial contribution to in situ tiger conservation projects in Sumatra with every product sold.
We can make a difference.
